What Maryland Voters Need To Know For Election Day
On Tuesday, November 8th, Marylanders will be going to the polls to cast their votes. The polls open at 7am and close at 8pm. If you are still in line at 8pm, you will be able to vote.
-New this year, Maryland voters can select candidates by filling in bubbles on a paper ballot.
-You must be registered to vote before Election Day. There will be no registrations permitted on Election Day.
-First time voters will be required to show photo ID. Valid forms of identification include: a driver's license, student ID, passport, a current utility bill, bank statement or paycheck. For a full list of acceptable documents, click HERE
-You cannot use your cell phone, pager, camera, and computer equipment in an early voting center or at a polling place.
-You can bring any printed material - including your marked specimen ballot - to help you vote.
-When you go vote, you can wear clothing, buttons or stickers with political messages, but you must leave the early voting center or polling place immediately after voting.
-If you do not have two consecutive hours when you are not working between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., your employer is required to provide two hours of paid leave to vote. If your employer requires proof that you voted, ask an election judge for a Certificate of Participation.
-If you are being harassed at a polling place, have trouble voting or suspect violations of election law, call the Maryland State Board of Elections voter hotline: 1-800-222-VOTE. You can also call the national nonpartisan Election-Protection coalition at 1-866-OUR-VOTE.
